A re-examination of Chanoyu, wine, and coffee, can reveal a parallel set of “bottom up” (practitioner and merchant) driven modernizations that have progressed their respective praxes. Unlike top down progression which can be attributed to distinct organizations (schools, tests, and competitions), bottom up drivers are patterned on the cultural traditions in which they operate.
